Ripe figs, honeysuckle, pear tart, and mineral notes are among the effusive aromas of this intense white, turning more tropical and vanilla-tinged on the palate, with cedary oak integrated among the copious layers of flavor. Bold and full-bodied, the rich and creamy mouthful finds finesse on the long finish.
Reviews:
- Wine Advocate: With a slightly smokier edge to the honeysuckle, poached pear, pineapple and caramelized citrus notes, the 2010 Chardonnay Marcassin Vineyard hits the palate with a full-bodied, thunderous affect of fruit, glycerin and acidity. The wine reveals some smoke in the aromatics, but little, if any, in the flavor profile. Full-bodied, lovely, and again, close to perfection (as so often these wines are), this is a beauty to drink over the next decade or more.
- Wine Spectator: Combines richness with elegance and detail, offering a core of green apple, lime- and lemon-laced citrus flavors, with touches of honey, spice and graphite. Lemon meringue notes emerge on the finish.
Producer Information
Marcassin is a leading Sonoma Coast wine label owned by famous winemaker Helen Turley and her viticulturalist husband John Wetlaufer. Turley is one of the most influential winemakers in California, and has acted as a consultant for many of the region’s top estates, including Pahlmeyer and Peter Michael Winery. The estate is regarded as a benchmark producer of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, and the wines are known for their rich opulent style and ageworthiness. A majority of the wines produced by Marcassin are exclusively released to members of the mailing list.In the winery, Chardonnay is pressed in whole bunches, while the Pinot Noir is destemmed and cold-soaked prior to fermentation with wild yeasts. Aging takes place in new French oak with no fining, filtering or cold stablization prior to bottling. The wines are then aged further in the cellar for around five years before release.
