Flores, silky, fresh bouquet, currants, raspberries, mint, fine herbs, cedars. Delicate, fragrant palate with fine tannins, fresh fruit, good aromas, fine finish.
Reviews:
- Wine Advocate: Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2019 Charmail rolls out of the glass with notions of plum preserves, baked cherries and fruitcake plus hints of spice box, gingerbread and pencil shavings. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has bags of spicy black fruit preserves on offer with a fine-grained frame and just enough freshness, finishing long and harmonious. Nicely done!
- James Suckling: Sweet-berry and orange-peel aromas and flavors. Medium to full body and juicy tannins. Yet, it’s structured and focused.
Producer Information
Château Charmail is an estate in the Haut-Médoc located on the Left Bank of the Gironde river. The château’s portfolio includes a grand vin made primarily from Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as a second wine, Tours de Charmail. The vineyard dates back to the 17th Century and now comprises 28 hectares (68 acres) of vines planted in a single parcel. It faces south and is planted to Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and a small quantity of Petit Verdot. The soils are largely made up of gravel and clay and, along with the mild climate, are perfectly suited to grape growing. The vineyard is hand-harvested, and the grapes are fed through a gravity flow system for processing. After cold maceration and fermentation, the wines are aged for 12 months in one-third new French oak barrels and bottled without fining or filtration. Approximately 10,000 cases of the Château Charmail grand vin is produced per year.
