The 2016 is highly expressive and has beautiful balance of rich cherry fruit, savoury spice and mineral nuances. Satin-textured, complex and incredibly long, this has the potential age very well indeed.

    Reviews:

    • Vinous: Healthy dark red with ruby suggestions. Reticent pure aromas of musky raspberry spices and rocky minerality lifted by a floral topnote. Boasts terrific precision and inner-mouth mineral grip but this is youthfully imploded today and less accessible than the Clos de la Roche with a touch of peppery stems contributing to the impression of tension.
    • James Suckling: Expressive even flamboyant this red features red and black cherry sandalwood stony mineral earth and spice flavors. Larger than life with a boisterous personality yet there’s no denying the intensity and complexity. Shows superb structure and length.

    Producer Information

Olivier Bernstein is a relative newcomer to Burgundy wines, but has quickly made an impact. The négociant produced his first vintage in 2007, which won wide acclaim from critics like Jancis Robinson and Allen Meadows. The aim here remains essentially the same: to produce wines of the highest possible quality and to forego nothing in a quest to create elegant, sensual and refined wines that can sit comfortably among the top wines of Burgundy.
It is this quest for perfection that has seen Olivier cease production of two of his Premiers Crus in order to focus on his domaine holding in Champeaux, and the seven Grands Crus which are now well established in the range: Charmes-Chambertin; Mazis-Chambertin; Chambertin Clos de Bèze; Chambertin; Clos de la Roche; Bonnes Mares; and Clos de Vougeot.
