The 2016 Riesling Berncasteler Doctor Spätlese is super clear, cool and flinty on the deep and complex nose that also shows tropical fruit aromas of passion fruit and mango. On the palate, this is an enormously rich, dense and textured Doctor Spätlese, a mouth-filling Riesling with almost 90 grams of unfermented sugar. There are tea flavours and a nice salinity in the finish.

The history of Dr. Thanisch Winery traces back over 375 years. In the early 19th century, Dr. Hugo Thanisch acquired the estate, which later his wife took over after his untimely death. During the time of Dr. Thanisch, his white wines became famous worldwide. His two daughters continued the family tradition of winemaking and added ‘Erben Müller-Burggraef’ to the estate’s name. Today, Maximilian Ferger is in charge of the winery and has been managing the administration for over a decade. In 2015, a newly-built ultra-modern manor became the home of the winery estate.
