    Reviews:

    • Vinous: Soaring aromatics make a strong first impression in Luciano Sandrone’s 2006 Barolo Le Vigne (Library Release). Stunningly beautiful and vivid, the 2006 possesses tons of pedigree. Silky tannins, expressive floral notes and delineated, red-toned fruit set the stage for powerful, voluptuous Barolo that satisfies all the senses. Like the Cannubi Boschis, the 2006 Le Vigne is in a gorgeous spot to deliver phenomenal drinking pleasure now and over the next 10-15 years, perhaps longer.
    • Wine Advocate: Sandrone’s 2006 Barolo Le Vigne possesses awesome balance as intricately woven layers of aromas and flavors come together in the glass. The 2006 is an especially powerful Le Vigne boasting a solid core of floral, red fruits supported by firm yet elegant tannins. This, too, shows the considerable drive and focus that is the hallmark of the vintage. The wine’s overall balance is impeccable. Le Vigne is made from parcels in Vignane (Barolo), Conterni and Ceretta (Monforte) and Merli (Novello). The wines are aged separately for a year in 500-liter barrels. The final blend is assembled, after which the wine spends an additional year in oak prior to being bottled.

    Producer Information

Azienda Agricola Luciano Sandrone is an Italian wine producer of Piedmont, particularly known for its red wines from the Nebbiolo grape. The Sandrone estate was founded in 1978, a year after after Luciano Sandrone had bought a small parcel of the Cannubi vineyard. Initially, wines were made in the garage of his parents’ house. A trip to Vinitaly in 1982 allowed Luciano to sell all of his 1978 Barolo to a US distributor, providing the starting point for a long, slow period of growth as additional Cannubi plots and other vineyards were purchased. The wine portfolio focuses on indigenous grape varieties of the region including Dolcetto and Barbera. The flagship wine is the Vite Talin, a Barolo DOCG first released in 2019. It is fermented in wooden casks prior to ageing for six years in both French oak and in the bottle prior to release. Grapes are sourced from the Le Coste di Barolo vineyard of which has been developed through massal selection over multiple generations. In the winery, all fermentations are spontaneous through the use of indigenous yeasts. Grapes are vinified seperately by variety as well as by individual plot to allow for more control in the blending process. Other wines in the collection include a Nebbiolo d’Alba, a Dolcetto d’Alba and a Barbera d’Alba.
