Aromatically complex, a chorus of dried herb, juicy currant and dark berry with touches of mineral, red bell pepper, soy and graphite.
Reviews:
- Wine Advocate: The most evolved, the 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Clone 4, comes from an old Beaulieu Private Reserve vineyard. It exhibits sweet loamy soil, kirsch, black currant, cedar and spice box characteristics in its full-bodied, soft, silky, sexy personality.
- James Suckling: Aromatically complex, a chorus of dried herb, juicy currant and dark berry with touches of mineral, red bell pepper, soy and graphite, the whole being intriguing and complete courtesy of the parts.
Producer Information
Tor Wines – or Tor Kenward Family Wines, to give it its full name – is a Californian producer based in St Helena. It is best known for its sought-after Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon red wines and Chardonnay white wines, sourced from stellar vineyards. The company was founded in 2001 by Tor and Susan Kenward after Tor retired from a 26-year career with Beringer Vineyards. He was able to draw on his extensive knowledge of the best vineyard plots in the Napa Valley, as well as long-standing personal relationships with their owners. The core of the portfolio is a handful of single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon wines from some of Napa Valley’s best growers. These cover subregions including Howell Mountain and Oakville, as well as St Helena. In the legendary Beckstoffer To-Kalon vineyard in Oakville, as well as six blocks of its principal variety, Tor works with a couple of blocks of Cabernet Franc. Vine Hill Ranch Vineyard provides an acre of Petit Verdot alongside two of Cabernet Sauvignon.
